SIG utilises renewable energy from wind power in real time for cartonboard production

SIG's production has been climate-neutral since 2018. The company's packaging is produced using 100 % renewable energy (electricity and gas). Initially, most of the renewable electricity was sourced indirectly, either through guarantees of origin or through international GoldPower^®-certificates for renewable energies. SIG is now focussing on Opportunities to purchase or produce a larger proportion of renewable electricity directly.

At the centre of this approach are Investments in local solar systems at the company's production sites worldwide. SIG already has solar capacities of 7.2 MWp at its production sites in China and Thailand. Further systems are under construction at the production sites in Brazil, China and Germany. Additional projects in Austria, Saudi Arabia and Mexico are in the planning phase.

The PPA contract for the wind turbines in Beppen is the SIG's first direct investment in renewable energies outside its own production sites. PPA contracts enable SIG to invest directly in renewable capacities outside its own locations.
