Styrofoam specialist Schaumaplast is launching a thermobox line made from natural fibres in February 2022. The boxes are designed for the refrigerated shipping of food and medicines.

From February 2022, the distribution of a thermal box line made of natural fibres will start. The thermoboxes are used for the refrigerated dispatch of food and medicines. At the beginning of the year, the Group also switched its entire range of thermal packaging from classic polystyrene to biomass-balanced polystyrene (Styropor BMB). The introduction of new sustainable cooling elements is also planned.

With the new Thermocon Nature product line, Schaumaplast uses almost 100 per cent renewable raw materials. Grass, hemp or wood fibres, among others, are used for production. According to the company, it takes great care to ensure that no plant-based raw materials suitable for human consumption are used. A minimal amount of polymer binding fibres is added to the natural fibres, but these also come partly from recycled material.
