Aeons wraps olive oil in paper

The Greek producer Aeons has teamed up with the importer Taste Greece and is now launching the first olive oil in a paper bottle on the German market. Compared to the glass bottle, the CO2 footprint is six times smaller.

The first olive oil in a paper bottle is to be launched on the market. The Greek manufacturer Aeons has teamed up with the importer Taste Greece and together they now want to offer a more sustainable alternative to plastic or glass bottles. 

The paper bottle that Aeons for its olive oil is made from 94 per cent recyclable cardboard. It uses up to 77 per cent less plastic than a plastic bottle and the paper bottle is five times lighter than an equivalent glass bottle. As a result, the bottle also has a carbon footprint six times smaller than a glass bottle. 

Circle-oriented food and beverage industry

The paper bottle consisting of a paper sleeve with a foil inner bag was developed by Frugalpac, a British packaging manufacturer. Sustainability takes centre stage for the company, which was founded in 2014. With a Decarbonisation of the food and beverage industry would like to Frugalpac contribute to a circular economy on a global scale. Packaging is produced on the basis of recycled paper, which can be easily recycled and does not have to be disposed of in landfill sites. 

„By producing environmentally friendly packaging, we can reduce our carbon footprint. Our sustainable Frugal Bottle made from 94 per cent recycled paper has a six times smaller CO² footprint than a glass bottle. Special flavour in sustainable packaging

As an organic company, Aeons pursues a holistic, sustainable approach. For owner Stefanos Papastergiou, the search for environmentally friendly packaging is the logical consequence of a sustainable mindset. The paper bottle convinced him because it fulfils better standards in terms of quality and safety than a glass bottle. „Above all, the Olive oil in the paper bottle completely protected from light. This is very important because it is the best way to preserve quality and flavour.“ The olive oil is not pressed from conventional varieties, but from the rare Amfissa variety known as the table olive, which gives Aeons olive oil a smooth texture and a full-bodied flavour.
