German container glass industry records sales growth

In the first half of 2022, the German container glass industry recorded sales growth in almost all segments.

In the first half of 2022, the German container glass industry recorded sales growth of 5.4 per cent. Both the beverage bottle segment and the food packaging glass segment were able to increase their sales. Glass packaging continues to be in high demand.

Sales in the Beverage bottles segment increased by 6.3 per cent in the first half of 2022. A look at the sub-segments shows sales growth in the beer and spirits (5.1 per cent) and wine and sparkling wine (6.3 per cent) segments. Non-alcoholic beverages (water, milk and juice) also recorded a rise in sales with an increase of 11.6 per cent. After last year's declines, the segment appears to be recovering. The sub-segments developed differently: for Sales of packaging glass for food excluding OGS (fruit, vegetables and tinned sour foods) fell by 1.7 per cent. The packaging glass sub-segment with OGS recorded significant growth of 10.7 per cent.

„Following the increase in sales in 2021, we are seeing a further pleasing increase in sales in the first half of 2022. The trend towards the use of glass packaging is clearly continuing among consumers. Due to the current tense political and economic situation, container glass manufacturers have taken measures to ensure the supply of glass in the coming winter.“
