Uhlmann Pac-Systeme has received the Red Dot Award for its Pexcite software platform. The award recognised the user experience (UX) of the platform, which has been live since 2021. With Pexcite, machines, production equipment and applications can be networked regardless of the manufacturer.
Pexcite is honoured by the Red Dot jury for the Quality of the user experience concept and its implementation. Pexcite is an open software platform that enables users from the pharmaceutical and biotech industries to network machines, production equipment and applications regardless of manufacturer.
Data and information from all areas of the production and packaging process can be collected, collated, displayed and analysed. Depending on requirements, different tasks can be realised: Implementation of track & trace specifications along the entire process chain, monitoring the productivity of machines and processes, digital tool management or centralised control and management of the entire production processes and elements.

In the conception and design of Pexcite's architecture and user interface, the team at Uhlmann Pac-Systems and Cadera Design have consistently worked towards one goal: Users with very different levels of expertise and access authorisations must be able to familiarise themselves with the user interface confidently, intuitively and quickly and use it easily in their day-to-day work can.
For the team, the aesthetics and user guidance that users are now accustomed to from their everyday digital lives online were the benchmark for their own solution. This also includes the fact that Pexcite across all digital end devices used in the production process, such as desktop devices, tablets and smartphones can be used. This means that the interface must scale automatically and access must be web-based.
„Visually appealing design, the light, friendly look and feel of the Pexcite UX, means above all reducing complexity for the users who use Pexcite. People need to enjoy working with our product and not be afraid of doing something wrong or breaking something. The UX is central to this. To achieve a really good result, you have to think about usability right from the start when designing the system architecture. Many digitalisation solutions in the pharmaceutical industry, and not only there, clearly show that complexity reduction and user-friendliness were not the focus of the developers.“
Thomas Kreutle, Director Development & Operations Digital Solutions at Uhlmann Pac-Systeme
A special The challenge for the Pexcite UX development team is the high regulatory requirements, that apply in the pharmaceutical industry. What makes the Pexcite solution so special is that it maps them in a lean, intuitive user interface without compromising on usability. The Pexcite platform is intended to initiate a tech change in the industry - instead of multiple systems, one Standardised operating concept along the entire value chain are offered. The UX design of Pexcite is agnostic - the applicability for different manufacturers and machines with different requirements was given very high priority in the UX design.
