The packaging company Hoffmann Neopac and the metal producer thyssenkrupp Rasselstein have signed a letter of intent to supply CO2-reduced packaging steel. With this material, Hoffmann Neopac will expand its product portfolio to include CO2-reduced doses.

Following a joint project with the herbal candy manufacturer Ricola in 2022, Hoffmann Neopac will use the promised quantities of bluemint steel to also offer other customers CO2-reduced tinplate packaging. Hoffmann Neopac supplies customers worldwide with products from the baby food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and wellbeing sectors.

Joint work on climate-friendly packaging

For both thyssenkrupp Rasselstein and Hoffmann Neopac, the signed declaration of intent is an important contribution to the climate-friendly steel value chain. „The production of CO2-reduced steel makes a significant contribution to our sustainability goals,“ says Rasselstein CEO Dr Peter Biele. thyssenkrupp aims to make its production climate-neutral by 2045 at the latest.

„Sustainability is at the centre of everything we do. We are delighted to have thyssenkrupp as a partner who wants to work with us on climate-friendly packaging,“ says Mark Aegler, CEO of Hoffmann Neopac, „We have already implemented some CO₂-reduced packaging in the Hoffmann Neopac Group. We produce our cans and tubes in Switzerland using 100 per cent renewable electricity, while also pursuing our own decarbonisation programme."
