The packaging company Coveris has developed a mono-material bottom film for sliced products, especially cheese. The MonoFlex BP can replace A-PET and PA-based bottom films. The company also offers new solutions for other dairy products.
The company describes its latest development as an industry first for the sliced cheese product group. With the newly developed MonoFlex BP bottom film, Coveris has created a PP-based, thermoformable and therefore recyclable alternative to today's A-PET and PA-based bottom films. According to the company, each type of cheese can be individually packaged with a barrier customised to the product. The portfolio includes film thicknesses from 200 µm to 350 µm and is available in transparent or white.
Solutions for grated cheese, mozzarella, yoghurt
For grated cheese, which is often packaged in non-recyclable bags, the company has developed the recyclable PE barrier film as part of its multi-award-winning MonoFlex BE brand. A barrier specially adapted to the product and a sealing layer that can be sealed by product contamination made it possible to create a fully recyclable solution.
Even today's non-recyclable mozzarella packaging can be replaced by the MonoFlex BE. This is because, in addition to the required medium-high oxygen barrier, the sealing layer has also been optimised for sealing through possible contamination and high processing speeds. And for yoghurt products, Coveris has achieved another breakthrough with the introduction of its die-cut blanks made of polypropylene. As the new foil replaces the aluminium foil that was previously used, the lid can now also be recycled in the same process as the rest of the yoghurt pot. According to the company, the switch from the classic aluminium circuit board to a circuit board made of PP has no negative impact on product durability.
