Edelmann installs Rapida 76 from Koenig & Bauer

The six-colour Rapida 76 from Koenig & Bauer requires around 30 per cent less space than similar systems. This was one of the reasons why folding carton producer Edelmann Norderstedt decided to purchase the press.

In the summer of last year Nobleman Norderstedt commissioned a half-format Rapida 76 (paper format up to 605 x 720 mm). Modern production features were at the forefront of the investment in the six-colour press with coater and extended delivery. This is because the new high-performance machine expands the company's product portfolio to include UV finishing in an inline process. It is thus increasing its vertical integration and offering UV varnishing.

Reduced waste

After examining the options in B2 format, only the Rapida 76 came into question. Compared to many other models, it requires around 30 per cent less space with comparable performance and automation. The number of available inking units has increased from four to six. The VariDryBlue dryer system, which continues to utilise hot air from previous modules in the following modules, helps to increase energy efficiency.

Extensive measurement technology equipment with inline colour control and comparison of the printed sheets with the prepress PDF helps to implement the „High Q Packaging“ quality claim for Edelmann's customers and business partners. Inline quality control also reduces the amount of waste, because the experts at the printing presses can intervene immediately if the systems detect deviations.

The experts at Edelmann in Norderstedt are delighted with the new sheetfed offset press equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Plant Manager Simon Wallmann: „The sheet format of the Rapida 76 helps to expand production possibilities. On the one hand through a larger number of panels per sheet and on the other through larger folding carton formats. Both reflect the sustainability concept that has long been anchored in the Edelmann Group's corporate strategy.“
