Tethered caps for juices from Intermarché

Intermarché relies on the SIG SwiftCap Linked closure with tethered cap and the Terra packaging material for its private label portfolio.

The French retail chain Intermarché relies on the SIG SwiftCap linked closure with tethered cap for its entire private label portfolio. The company's Terra packaging material is also used for the carton packaging.

Intermarché will also use a packaging material from the SIG Terra portfolio, which helps to reduce the use of fossil-based plastics. The Terra portfolio consists of a range of more sustainable composite options: without aluminium layer, with renewable, forest-based materials and/or recycled materials.

Terra packaging materials support the transition to renewable, forest-based polymers via a mass balance system. The company uses Tall oil as a raw material for polymers. This is a forest-based by-product of the paper industry. This avoids the use of agricultural products that could otherwise be used for food production. The Polymers are certified according to the ISCC PLUS certification system. The wafer-thin aluminium foil used in the packaging material protects the contents from light and oxygen and is certified in accordance with the ASI (Aluminium Stewardship Initiative) standard.

„As part of our targeted strategy for sustainable development, replacing fossil-based plastics with renewable materials is a priority. We have set ourselves ambitious CSR targets that we are determined to achieve. By being the first company in France to launch SIG's tethered caps and switching to a SIG Terra packaging material, we are helping to reduce the consumption of fossil resources and minimise our impact on the environment.“

The caps can be easily disposed of and recycled together with the rest of the cardboard packaging. The tethered caps enable Easy pouring and drinking from the pack. They are also labelled with the compatible with existing SIG filling machines and cap applicators. This means that no major investments are required.

„By choosing our tethered caps and packaging material from the SIG Terra portfolio, Intermarché is once again demonstrating its commitment to sustainability. We support Intermarché in meeting the legal requirements and the growing consumer demand for sustainable packaging. Consumers who choose the Paquito and MERCI! brands can also help to act responsibly by supporting local farmers.“
