Users of modern packaging machines demand automation solutions that are both efficient and sustainable. Visitors to SPS will receive answers to the latest questions on drive and automation technology from the experts at SEW-Eurodrive.

With the StarterSet 616, for example, the packaging machine specialist Hugo Beck Mechanical Engineering pneumatics with electric actuators in a short development time and thus achieves Improvements in energy consumption. The new solution is based on the StarterSet 616, which includes all Hardware and software modules from the MOVI-C modular automation system which are typically used in such machines.

Due to the sustainability requirements, the StarterSet has been specially expanded to include components such as energy storage and stepper drives. The smart energy supply „Power and Energy Solutions“, in conjunction with the software modules from SEW-Eurodrive intelligent energy management. This leads to Stabilisation of the power supply and bridging of short-term voltage dips, This results in reduced peak loads and a controlled stop in the event of a prolonged power failure. This means that the machine can also be used when the supply network is not stable or a power failure is to be expected.

Previously, movements such as cutting and clamping in the packaging machine were traditionally realised using compressed air. Stepper motors are now used for this, which are controlled using the new Bus Terminal from the I/O system portfolio. They enable the Complete elimination of pneumatics. By substituting the compressed air-operated actuators eliminates the need for maintenance of these components. Energy costs are also reduced. Despite extensive modifications, the development and commissioning times for the horizontal flow-wrapping machine were minimised with the standardised starter set.
