Greiner Packaging starts 2024 with two awards at the WorldStar Awards. The company was honoured for its cardboard-plastic cup K3 r100 and the redesign of a yoghurt packaging.
Over 40 years ago, the cardboard-plastic cup was developed by Greiner Packaging and has been continuously developed ever since. Its thin plastic cup, reduced CO2-footprint and the Intuitive pull tab make the packaging a sustainable and visually appealing packaging choice. With the K3 r100 product innovation, the cardboard wrap and plastic packaging can be recycled during the waste disposal process without separated from each other by human intervention. Achieving recyclability (up to 98 per cent) is therefore not dependent on correct separation by the end consumer, but happens automatically. Greiner Packaging 2023 has already been honoured with the Green Packaging Star Award for this innovation.

To make the packaging design of Olma Pierot's creamy, fruity yoghurts more sustainable, the brand turned to packaging specialist Greiner Packaging. Through a Switch from injection moulding to thermoforming and an adjustment to the cup geometry a total of 29 per cent plastic per cup could be saved. This corresponds to a potential saving of 48 tonnes of plastic per year. In addition, the packaging is Adjustments to the cup geometry for better stackabilityThe stacking height of 5 cups has been reduced by 74.8 mm, which in turn reduces the lorry loads required for transport - by almost 80 percent per year. By reducing both the amount of plastic required and the number of lorry loads, CO2-emissions can be saved. In 2023, the redesign already received the Czech Obal Roku Award „Packaging of the Year 2023“.
„We have already won several WorldStar Awards in recent years. However, receiving two awards in one year is something very special and emphasises that we are working together with our customers at all our locations to develop innovative packaging with sustainability in mind. And it is precisely with this aspiration that we are entering the upcoming financial year.“
