Coveris has expanded its recycling activities under the ReCover brand and integrated the former ReCover Paper. The company is thus bundling its paper and plastics recycling processes as part of its „No Waste“ strategy and strengthening its circular economy expertise.

Coveris has expanded its ReCover division, which originally focussed on plastic recycling, by integrating ReCover Paper. The unit processes more than 10,000 tonnes of waste materials every year and is a central component of the company's „No Waste“ strategy, which aims to eliminate all forms of waste.

ReCover Paper, previously operating under the name Environmental Services, is responsible for waste management at Coveris' UK label and cardboard sites and organises recycling partnerships along the entire supply chain. One focus is on returning paper and label waste to closed material cycles.

Cooperation with UPM Adhesive Materials

The cooperation with UPM Adhesive Materials as part of the RafCycle programme plays a key role here. Through this partnership, Coveris is the only UK label manufacturer to offer a paper-based recycling service for siliconised backing papers. Since the scheme was launched in 2024, the company says more than 400 tonnes of backing paper has been recycled by Coveris and its customers.

In addition, ReCover Paper operates a system with patented delamination technology that processes complete rolls of self-adhesive labels. Recycling is optimised by separating the face material from the liner. In addition to label materials, over 500,000 label cores are processed there for reuse every year and cardboard and transport films are sorted.

„The integration of ReCover Paper reflects our aim to create a single, visible recycling platform within the company,“ explained Adam Robinson, Head of Sustainability at the Coveris Paper Business Unit. ReCover Paper makes a significant contribution to improving the company's own sustainability footprint and at the same time offers a leading recycling service for customers.
