Packaging manufacturer ProAmpac is investing in the expansion of its food board production facility in Donegal, Ireland. With a new production area within the existing plant, the company is strengthening its capacity for food packaging applications and further expanding its offering for customers in the food and CPG industries.

ProAmpac, a global provider of flexible packaging solutions, has expanded its food board production capacity at its Donegal site in Ireland. A new, specially designed production area has been put into operation within the existing plant, which the company says will increase efficiency, precision and service quality in the food packaging sector.

The expansion builds on the site's previous activities, which include the production of packaging solutions for pet food, convenience products and consumer goods. The additional production space will increase capacity for food board applications, which are primarily used in the chilled and prepared food segments.

Focus on precision and service

The centrepiece of the investment is a new cutting system designed to ensure uniform cuts and consistent material quality. According to the company, this enables more precise further processing of the cardboard solutions, particularly in combination with vacuum bags and other flexible packaging from the ProAmpac portfolio.

In addition, the site has been organisationally expanded. A dedicated customer service team will improve customer support and enable shorter lead times. At the same time, ProAmpac offers food board solutions in various material thicknesses and formats to meet the specific requirements of different applications.

The food board products are used for fish, poultry and meat products as well as in the confectionery sector. Typical applications include fillets, portions or baked goods that are sold chilled or prepared. According to ProAmpac, the expanded production also complements the production of printed and unprinted vacuum bags, enabling customers to obtain complete packaging solutions from a single source.

John McDermott, Operations Director Ireland & DACH at ProAmpac, explained that the investment reflects the company's commitment to continuously develop quality, service and innovation. The expansion in Donegal puts ProAmpac in a better position to supply customers with greater speed and reliability.
