„Better with less“ design competition: cardboard makes bubble wrap superfluous
Iiro Numminen has won the „Better with less - Design challenge“ competition organised by Metsä Board. He designed cardboard packaging that makes bubble wrap superfluous.

Iiro Numminen has won the „Better with less - Design challenge“ design competition with a newly developed shipping carton concept that eliminates the need for bubble wrap. The international jury, chaired by Cyril Drouet, „Design & Innovation Director“ at competition initiator Metsä Board, honoured Numminen's concept with 10,000 euros in prize money.
This is intended Packaging concept with the title „Stretching inner part“ for the E-Commerce. Corrugated cardboard packaging can be used to ship products of different sizes. The packaging is also suitable for transporting several individual parts. The tight fit of the packaged goods is always guaranteed. The previously necessary Bubble wrap becomes superfluous. The jury praised the Winning entry as „appealing, versatile, adaptable and easy to use“.
Toilet roll packaging becomes a paper holder
Three special prizes were also awarded. Jeroen Caelen competed in the „Wild Card“ category. His „Plastic banning toilet roll” scooped the first additional prize. This is a Toilet paper packaging in the form of a hexagonal cardboard tube that can also be used as a toilet roll holder. The packaging innovation on a popular topic also emerged as the favourite in a public vote.

With the reusable Cosmetic packaging „The moisture face cream cosmetic package„ won Abdullah Cam the second additional prize. The concept is based on creating a reusable cardboard packaging with a Plastic insert can be combined. This makes plastic or film coatings obsolete. The entire packaging is easier to recycle.

In addition to the main prize of 10,000 euros, three special prizes („Honorary Mention“) were awarded. Metsä Board also offered an internship in its Packaging Service team for one student as an additional prize[/infotext].
Snack packaging turns into hand puppets
Pawel Krawczugo secured the third special award with his „TWIST“ concept, an unobtrusive but functional Packaging for cosmetics and other products.
Alessandro Grossi finally qualified for an internship at Metsä Board with another additional prize. He came up with the concept of „The playing nature“, a Snack packaging, which can be transformed into hand puppets for children.
