„CelluStraw“ offers a paper-based alternative to plastic straws

With the „CelluStraw“ from Ahlstrom-Munksjö, there is now another alternative to disposable plastic drinking straws. The Finnish specialist for fibre-based solutions emphasises the sustainability of the new drinking straw.

With the „CelluStraw“ from Ahlstrom-Munksjö, there is now another alternative to disposable plastic drinking straws. The Finnish specialist for fibre-based solutions emphasises the sustainability of the new product.

The CelluStraw consists of a Speciality paper. According to the manufacturer, the paper developed for both the inner and outer layers runs particularly well on high-speed processing machines. It is particularly resistant to moisture and mechanical stress. The fibre-based solution is particularly suitable for use in cold beverages.

Natural fibres come from sustainable cultivation

The natural fibres used as raw materials for the CelluStraw come from sustainable cultivation. They are, so it assures Ahlstrom-Munksjö, biodegradable and suitable for the Contact with food suitable.

The new product was developed through co-operation between Ahlstrom-Munksjö's North American and European plants. Robyn Buss, Vice President Sales and Marketing, North America SpecialtySolutions, explains: „For the paper straw market, we are running a Global technology platform with plants in Europe and the USA.“
