The company offers consumers a sustainable alternative in the form of a reusable returnable lid. By dispensing with the disposable lids, Kaufland says it is saving 60 tonnes of plastic per year in.
About the reusable lid
„We are constantly looking for alternative packaging options and innovative solutions to reduce the amount of plastic in our packaging materials. One particular challenge here is to guarantee the shelf life and product properties of the food,“ says Stefan Zimmer, Purchasing Own Brands Kaufland. „We are therefore delighted that we can now also offer our customers a sustainable alternative to disposable plastic lids.“
In order to seal dairy products airtight in the fridge and extend their shelf life, the packaging of yoghurt pots and other dairy products usually contains a plastic lid in addition to the sealing film, which can be used to reseal the pot after opening. At Kaufland, this lid will be removed from selected private label products with immediate effect. Instead, consumers are encouraged to use a Sustainable and reusable alternative, the reusable lid.
The reusable lid can be reused many times, Dishwasher-safe and can be used for all 500 gram yoghurt pots and various other volumes. It is made of food-safe material and can be recycled. The lid is now available at Kaufland for 0,49 Euro per piece available.
