Avoury, the new brand launched by Melitta Single Portions, is working with Sabic's Trucircle portfolio of solutions and services to produce its ground-breaking new premium organic tea capsules made from certified circular polypropylene (PP), which is made from used plastic. The launch represented an innovative use of recycled, transparent plastic tea capsules in the industry, which is an exciting step towards a more sustainable future with products that are easier to recycle and help create a circular economy for plastics.

Avoury was one of the first companies to use the Trucircle solution from Sabic used. The capsules are made from recycled post-consumer material. This premium organic tea capsule is specially produced for the new Avoury One tea machine, which was launched at the end of 2019 and allows consumers to enjoy a first-class cup of tea at the touch of a button. The transparent tea capsules go one step further and allow consumers not only to taste the high-quality tea, but also to see it inside the capsule and thus convince themselves of the quality visually.

"We naturally want to ensure an exceptional tea experience and prove that it is possible to use resources responsibly. With Avoury tea capsules, we can do both." Holger FeldmannCEO of Melitta Single Portions

Sabic's Trucircle portfolio and services are a significant milestone on the road to completing the loop and creating a circular economy for plastics. It showcases Sabic's circular innovations and can help manufacturers reduce plastic waste through the use of sustainable materials.

The portfolio includes design for recyclability, mechanically recycled products, certified closed-loop products from the raw material recycling of used plastics and certified products from renewable energies made from bio-based raw materials.

"Avoury tea capsules are a great example of collaboration and innovation between Sabic and Melitta Single Portions to produce the world's first tea capsules made with our Trucircle circular solutions. At Sabic, we are committed to delivering sustainable solutions to our customers and are closer than ever to closing the loop on used plastic." Mark Vester, Head of Circular Economy at Sabic.

The solution for the certified Sabic Qrystal copolymer used for this new packaging contributes to the development of a circular economy through its recyclability. In addition, the material is transparent, aesthetically pleasing and the quality of the tea leaves is preserved. The packaging is heat resistant to protect the tea leaves while allowing the tea to release its flavours and nuances at the touch of a button.
