The Science Based Targets initiative is a global business organisation that has set itself the task of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. The Uhlmann Group has been part of the SBTi since 7 July.
Matthias Niemeyer CEO of the Uhlmann Groupsays: "The heat records that are currently being broken around the world are just one of many examples of why the goals of the Paris Agreement urgently need to be implemented. We see improving the quality of life worldwide as the main purpose of our business activities. This is another reason why we decided in favour of SBTi. The science-based approach ensures that the measures are in line with the 1.5 degree target and are not just cosmetic."
The Uhlmann Group has set up its own working group to formulate the climate strategy with targets and to implement and monitor it. Two full-time employees at the Uhlmann headquarters work together with 17 carbon managers on site in the individual companies and business units on the Group-wide climate strategy and its implementation. The first practical measures are already in place: Cremer Speciaalmachines, Uhlmann UK Ltd, Uhlmann Höfliger Schweiz GmbH and Koch Pac-Systeme, for example, already obtain one hundred per cent of their electricity from renewable sources. Concrete CO2-The full scope of the reduction targets and the steps required to achieve them will be finalised by the end of 2022 and will then be reviewed and approved by the SBTi. The following targets have been defined: "By 2030, we will source 100 per cent of our electricity from alternative energies and reduce our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 42 % and our Scope 3 emissions by 25 %."
