The third round of collective bargaining between Verdi and the German Association for Paper and Plastics Processing (HPV) is imminent. In the run-up, the employers signalled their willingness to conclude the negotiations, in which, among other things, the inflation compensation premium is a relevant component.
The Main Association of Paper and Plastics Processing reaffirms its commitment in the run-up to the third round of collective bargaining Aiming for a swift wage agreement. Now that the second round has passed without result, the employers' improved, near-final offer remains the basis for negotiations. The employers offered to negotiate a Inflation adjustment premium of 3,000 euros to be paid; In addition, they want to increase wages and salaries by 4.1 percent from 1 October 2023.
„Now it is up to the trade union to make a move - for the benefit of our employees and for the planning security of the companies. Should employees receive a first quick cash injection without deductions before Easter - yes or no? This question can only be answered by Verdi. The union must finally show its colours as to whether it accepts the inflation compensation bonus as the basis of our two-part offer. Then we can negotiate the second part of our offer - a 4.1 percent pay rise from 1 October with a term until 30 June 2025.“

A quick agreement is particularly important to give employees the opportunity to cushion the extraordinary level of inflation. The third round of negotiations between HPV and Verdi will take place on 7 March 2023 in Berlin. The HPV's lead negotiators are Jürgen Peschel and Chief Executive Stefan Rössing.
„When the federal government proposed the inflation compensation premium, trade unions and employers unanimously welcomed the instrument. Together with the three government relief packages to date, it represents an effective means of compensating for the extraordinary burdens of inflation - above all because it can be paid out without deductions. Why is the Verdi trade union so reluctant to accept the inflation compensation premium? After all, the instrument has long been accepted by other trade unions as part of collective agreements, for example by IG Metall and IG BCE, said the HPV negotiator. We are true to our word and will endeavour to reach an agreement in the next round of negotiations.“
