The Italian packaging supplier Gi.St.El. Plast now has renewable and compostable packaging solutions made from NatureFlex cellulose films in its portfolio, which are already used for packaging tomatoes.
Fresh products such as tomatoes are increasingly being offered in flow-pack packaging. This offers NatureFlex-film is a good opportunity to fulfil the high quality standards of producers, especially for organic products. The NVS films in the NatureFlex family are printed and macroperforated according to the specifications of the end product.
Thanks to the sustainable films, Gi.St.El. Plast's range of packaging for fresh produce is not only certified to global standards for industrial composting (including EN13432), but also to standard OK compost HOME TÜV Austria also authorised for composting in private households. After use, the certified films can be disposed of directly with the kitchen waste in household compost.
NatureFlex film for optimum freshness protection
NatureFlex is also renewable, as it is made from wood pulp from sustainably managed forests. The film family is also characterised by high efficiency on automatic packaging machines and freshness protection of packaged products.

Gi.St.El. Plast supplies a large number of different fruit and vegetable growers in Italy, including the Mediterranee Group in Pachino, Sicily. Among other things, this company grows the Pachino IGP tomato (IGP: Protected Designation of Origin) and vine tomatoes on its farms. The Mediterranee Group worked with the packaging provider to develop the design and appearance of the packaging made from NatureFlex film for fresh tomatoes.
