The US packaging specialist Sonoco has completed the integration of the metal packaging company previously known as Eviosys. With immediate effect, the division will operate under the name Sonoco Metal Packaging EMEA.

The strategic acquisition was completed in December 2024 and marks a significant step for Sonoco in strengthening its market presence in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The merger will increase the EMEA region's share of the Group's global turnover from 14 to over 40 per cent. At the same time, the number of metal packaging locations worldwide will multiply, making Sonoco the largest manufacturer of metal packaging in the world, according to Sonoco.

Stronger market position and sustainable focus

With 45 plants in 17 countries and an annual production of around 26 billion packages, Sonoco is significantly expanding its capacities in Europe. The company employs over 6,400 people in the region. The new division will specifically address the needs of the consumer goods industry, for example with flexible production options, expanded printing technologies and investments in energy efficiency.

„Today is an important milestone as Eviosys officially changes its name to Sonoco Metal Packaging EMEA,“ said Howard Coker, President and CEO of Sonoco. „Our vision ‚Better Packaging. Better Life.‘ stands for solutions that make a positive contribution to customers, society and the environment.“

Tomás López, CEO of Sonoco Metal Packaging EMEA, adds: „This transformation underlines our claim to leadership in the sustainable metal packaging market and at the same time recognises Eviosys“ successes. Our 200-year history stands for innovation and responsibility."

Future plans and global growth

Sonoco plans to combine Eviosys' strengths in the region with its own global infrastructure in order to shorten innovation cycles and make sustainable solutions scalable internationally. The aim is to be recognised worldwide as a partner for recyclable packaging - particularly in the high-growth metal packaging segment.
