The Italian machine and plant manufacturer Sacmi has acquired a majority stake in the French Groupe Emballage Technologies. The transaction strengthens Sacmi's position in the food packaging sector and at the same time expands its industrial presence in France and other markets.

Sacmi has acquired 65 per cent of the shares in Groupe Emballage Technologies via its subsidiary Sacmi Packaging & Chocolate SpA. The acquisition was officially completed on Friday, 19 December 2025. Groupe Emballage Technologies includes the companies Etpack, Sermatec and Pactisoud, which specialise in secondary packaging technologies.

The two groups have been working together since 2019, in particular via Sacmi's Polish subsidiary. This existing cooperation formed the basis for the investment that has now been finalised, which according to Sacmi is important both commercially and industrially. With the integration of the French group, Sacmi Packaging & Chocolate is expanding its portfolio of secondary packaging solutions and supplementing existing technologies in a targeted manner.

Expansion of the packaging portfolio and industrial synergies

The merger will enable Sacmi to expand its range of flowpack systems and vertical packaging machines with low and medium speeds. The machines will be developed by Sacmi and assembled at Sermatec. The aim is to increase responsiveness to market requirements and open up additional sectors and market segments.

Groupe Emballage Technologies has been firmly established in the French market for many years. Sacmi sees the majority shareholding as an important step towards strengthening its local presence in France and further expanding it via a network of production and sales locations. The acquisition also fits into the international strategy of Sacmi Packaging & Chocolate which is already active in Poland, the DACH countries and the USA.

Sacmi President Paolo Mongardi emphasises that the expansion of the food packaging solutions business is a key strategic goal. The combination of primary and secondary packaging technologies complements the existing range and opens up new market opportunities via the Group's global network. Pierrick Doux, who has been at the helm of Groupe Emballage Technologies since 2007, explained that the Group will retain its operational and organisational independence. At the same time, closer co-operation should support the joint growth targets in France and on international markets.

The first joint public appearance is planned for March 2026, when Sacmi and Groupe Emballage Technologies will be represented at the CFIA trade fair in Rennes.
