Mondi and Dreco have developed a new packaging solution for washing powder that consists of 50 percent post-consumer recyclate while simultaneously ensuring the high level of protection required for moisture-sensitive products.
Packaging for washing powder must effectively protect the product from moisture and water throughout its entire lifecycle. Mondi's re/loop PillowBag demonstrates that a high proportion of recycled material can be successfully integrated into flexible packaging for demanding FMCG applications without compromising performance, quality, or user-friendliness.
From 1 January 2030, the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will set a target of 35 percent recycled content from post-consumer plastic waste for this category of plastic packaging.
With a recycled content of 50 percent, the re/loop PillowBag is ideally positioned, supports future compliance with this target and significantly reduces the use of primary plastic. The solution has already been introduced to retailers across Germany and positions Dreco as a pioneer for sustainable packaging, well ahead of legal deadlines.
Transparency and traceability
To ensure transparency and traceability throughout the entire value chain, Mondi has implemented a mass balance approach within its ISCC PLUS certification, enabling traceable allocation of PCR materials across the entire supply chain.
In line with Mondi's MAP2030 sustainability framework, the re/loop PillowBag is designed for recyclability and has been assessed according to Mondi’s „Path to Circularity Scorecard“ and Ceflex D4ACE guidelines. The structure is considered compatible with established polyolefin (PO) mechanical recycling streams, thus supporting effective end-of-life processing.
More comfort for end users
In addition to its sustainability features, the packaging has been designed with the end consumer's convenience in mind. The easy-to-open pouch allows for practical handling and everyday use, while high-quality print designs ensure a strong shelf presence.
