PackTheFuture Awards 2018: sustainable plastic packaging honoured

The fourth PackTheFuture Awards were presented at All4Pack in Paris. Sustainable concepts for plastic packaging were honoured. Eleven prizes in four categories and one special prize were awarded.

The French industry association for plastic and flexible packaging (ELIPSO) and the German Industrial Association for Plastic Packaging (IK) have presented the „PackTheFuture - The Sustainable Plastic Packaging Award“ for the fourth time. This year, the internationally renowned prize was awarded at All4Pack in Paris.

According to the two organising organisations, 48 companies from Germany, France, Austria, Italy and Spain applied for the prize, which has been awarded since 2014. A total of eleven companies were honoured Packaging concepts in four categories. A special prize was also awarded.

A total of five German companies were among the award winners, most of them in the „Ecodesign“ category. A special prize was also awarded to the Austrian Alpla Werke Alwin Lehner GmbH & Co KG. The company had submitted a shampoo bottle of the brand „Head & Shoulders“, which was developed in co-operation between TerraCycle, Suez, Alpla and Procter & Gamble. What makes it special is that the bottle is completely recyclable and consists of 25 per cent plastic granulate made from material collected from beaches.

Three awards in the „Ecodesign“ category“

The Heinz Plastics Böhm GmbH from Tettau was honoured for its recyclate closure. This is the first closure of its kind to be made entirely from recycled polypropylene. The raw material was obtained entirely from the yellow bag.

In the same category, the Jokey Plastik Wipperfürth GmbH a prize for its „Jokey Multi Pack 185“. This is a study for a container made entirely from secondary raw materials. Jokey attaches particular importance to the design of the containers, which should resemble „grey“ recycled packaging as little as possible.

The „NorDiFill-ECO“ packaging films consist of 80 per cent recycled material. The product group of Nordfolien GmbH was the third German entry to receive a PackTheFuture Award in the „Ecodesign“ category.

Transport box maintains the temperature for 250 hours

In the „Product Protection“ category, the „O-Box H250“ from Berlin-based Ohlro Hartschaum GmbH emerged as the winner of the competition. The transport box holds up to 30 litres and is suitable for transporting temperature-sensitive goods. It maintains the temperature inside the box for at least 250 hours, for example in a range between two and eight degrees Celsius.

The „Sportscap Secure Flip 1881“ from the RPC Bender GmbH was finally recognised with an award in the consumer benefits category. The prize was awarded for the ergonomic design that enables the flip-top sports cap for PCO1881 bottle necks to be opened with one hand.

Already announced ELIPSO and IK the fifth edition of the PackTheFuture Awards announced. The award ceremony will take place at Interpack in Düsseldorf in 2020. The PackTheFuture Award is recognised by the World Packaging Organisation. The winners will also take part in the World Star Awards 2019.
