If you order your food from Lieferando, you may soon receive it in a new biodegradable packaging with an algae coating. It was developed by Lieferando's parent company Just Eat Takeaway.com together with the British start-up Notpla.
Lieferando is expanding its range of sustainable packaging to include fully biodegradable boxes with a unique algae coating. These are water and grease repellent, free from chemicals and bioplastics.
The eco kraft paper boxes are the first packaging from Lieferando that is 100 per cent natural and completely decomposable, says the company. They can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way in paper waste as well as in the organic waste bin or on the compost heap.
The future of sustainable packaging
Since 2019, Lieferando has removed single-use plastic from its Webshop and offers its restaurant partners recyclable alternatives for various dishes.
„We are determined to build a more sustainable future for restaurant food packaging. Reusable systems and the Lieferando Eco Kraft paper boxes are part of this strategy. They offer all the advantages of conventional plastic packaging - and conserve valuable resources. We have been supporting Notpla in its development since 2018 and are currently working on further solutions,” says Robin Clark, Senior Director Global Partnerships & Sustainability, about the partnership and CSR strategy of Just Eat Takeaway.com.
Our biodegradable box is a real novelty. Thanks to its unique algae coating, the box is resistant to grease and moisture, making it suitable for pan-fried dishes, fried foods and salads. It is a perfect alternative.
The Lieferando webshop offers a variety of recyclable and sustainable alternatives to conventional packaging from wholesalers. To this end, Just Eat Takeaway.com has developed a strict packaging policy that ensures a low environmental impact, even beyond the legal requirements. Lieferando's own packaging is all made from recyclable paper.
The new eco kraft paper boxes are available in 700ml and 1300ml capacities.
