Sustainable packaging refinement

KURZ is the only manufacturer in the industry to have developed a recycling programme called RECOSYS for the PET residual material that is produced during hot stamping, which converts the residual material back into a valuable raw material. With RECOSYS 2.0, Markus Hoffmann, member of the management board, and Rolf Schmidtke, project manager of RECOSYS 2.0, presented the further development at interpack.

The myth of plastic films on metallised end products is still circulating in the industry. No wonder: after all, PET films are involved in every metallic finishing process and the industry talks about hot stamping foil or cold foil. The fact is: the plastic film only serves as a temporary carrier for our wafer-thin transfer product – i.e. the PET carrier is peeled off during the application process. For the PET residual material, KURZ is the only manufacturer in the industry to have developed a recycling programme called RECOSYS®, which converts the residual material back into a valuable raw material.

With RECOSYS® 2.0, KURZ is taking yet another and rather large step in the direction of recycling management. In line with the motto “avoidance” before “recycling”, KURZ has also reduced the thickness of the PET carrier from 12µm to 6µm (by up to 50%).
