Sappi Europe has launched Guard Pro OHS and Guard Pro OMH, two recyclable mono-material papers with high barrier protection. The new solutions support branded goods manufacturers in complying with stricter EU packaging regulations such as the PPWR.
Guard Pro OHS is a heat-sealable high barrier paper for applications such as flow-wrap, sachets, pillow bags and doypacks. It offers high protection against oxygen, water vapour, grease and MOSH/MOAH. These barrier properties extend shelf life, preserve flavour and product quality and protect the contents from contamination. The paper has improved mechanical properties that result in better runnability on packaging machines.
The paper is available in two print versions: Natural and Gloss. Guard Pro OHS is Suitable for direct food contact. Typical applications include confectionery, snacks, dried foods, ice cream (tubular bag applications), but also hygiene products and children's products, where safety, freshness and compliance are crucial.
The high barrier paper Guard Pro OMH offers similar barrier properties to Guard Pro OHS, but is designed for cold seal applications. It is a cost-effective solution for applications where heat sealing is not required. With an improved oxygen barrier compared to Guard Pro OHS, Guard Pro OMH is suitable for a wide range of applications. Wide range of applications in the food and non-food sectors. Due to its particularly smooth surface, the paper offers excellent processing results in metallisation for ultra-high barrier applications.
The choice between Guard Pro OHS and Guard Pro OMH gives packaging engineers more Flexibility and room for manoeuvre in terms of sealing method, production speed and material costs, without having to compromise on recyclability or barrier protection.
