RS-Systems GmbH presents „Roll-Smart“, a new base plate with a fifth wheel for roll containers. The system is designed to significantly simplify the handling of goods transport and at the same time increase the capacity utilisation of trucks.
Roll containers have been standard in retail, catering and logistics for decades. Little has changed in their basic design - but the requirements for efficiency and work safety have increased. With the new Roll-Smart base plate, RS-Systems wants to address this issue. The central element is a fifth wheel that can be locked and moved using a foot pedal. This makes it easier to manoeuvre the container lengthways and crossways.
According to the company, roll containers can be pushed into lorries and unloaded again more effortlessly. This reduces physical strain and minimises the risk of accidents. At the same time, efficiency is improved: a standard trailer with a width of 2.45 metres can now transport 54 roll containers instead of the previous 51 - an increase in load volume of almost six percent.
Integrated castor system for greater manoeuvrability
Technically, the system is based on a stable base plate with an integrated castor system. The fifth wheel is integrated into a robust construction that is designed to enable precise manoeuvrability. According to RS-Systems, the compact arrangement in the cargo space also reduces container slippage and therefore potential damage.
Another feature is the ergonomic foot pedal. Employees do not have to bend down to release the brake or put a lot of weight on the side rails to move heavy containers. The use of pallet trucks or high-speed pallet trucks also remains possible.
Roll-Smart is currently in a pilot phase with customers in Austria, Paris and Bucharest. The modular system can be retrofitted to existing roll containers or supplied as a completely pre-assembled unit. In combination with the Roll-Safe transport securing system, it is also possible to dispense with stretch film wrapping.
