Monta Klebebandwerk GmbH has developed a sustainable adhesive packaging tape made from industrial waste plastics. Post Industrial recycled (PIR) polypropylene is used for the carrier film.

The new adhesive tape monta reTec 831 with natural rubber adhesive is suitable for the permanent sealing of medium to heavy cardboard boxes. The carrier film consists entirely of made from post-industrial recyclate (PIR) of European origin. The CO2 footprint of the raw materials used is therefore 33 per cent lower than that of conventional BOPP plastic adhesive tape.

The production of polypropylene film generates plastic waste that was previously disposed of. Monta Klebebandwerk GmbH is now using it to manufacture a functional product: at the film manufacturer's site, plastic waste is processed into 100 per cent post-industrial recycled (PIR) polypropylene and used as a carrier film for the film. monta reTec 831 adhesive tape is used. This is then used for assembly Coated with natural rubber adhesivewhich fulfils the technical requirements even for difficult surfaces or extreme environments, such as in deep-freeze areas.

Recyclate adhesive tape seals economically

Conserving resources is not only an issue when it comes to the raw materials for the carrier material, but also in the use of adhesive tapes. Because Adhesive tapes with good adhesive strength and high tear resistance usually seal with just one layer. If adhesive tapes have to be applied in multiple layers in order to achieve the desired properties, this means a multiple consumption of material. On the one hand, sealing is more time-consuming and expensive, and on the other hand, it has a negative impact on the environment.

The Disposal of the adhesive tape in cardboard recycling is one aspect of sustainability: the monta reTec 831 can be easily separated from the cardboard and cardboard recycling is trouble-free.

The range is becoming greener

Every year 30 billion square metres of adhesive tape worldwide used. Assembly For this reason, the company developed a 90 per cent bio-based adhesive tape made from renewable raw materials at the end of 2019, marking the start of its sustainable product range Monta Greenline given. With the new adhesive tape made from PIR recyclate, the company is now adding another plastic adhesive tape to its environmentally friendly range.

Since August 2021, it has also been possible to All Monta Greenline adhesive tapes are climate-neutral are offered: To offset CO2 emissions, the adhesive tape manufacturer supports recognised climate protection projects that are certified according to international standards.
