In recent years, natural fibre-reinforced plastics (biocomposites) have developed into an ecological, economical and technological alternative to classic composite materials such as glass and carbon fibre-reinforced plastics. The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture has been promoting these for some time with good results. The Agency for Renewable Resources (FNR) is launching a series of webinars on 8 December to make this group of materials and their areas of application even more widely known.
Biocomposites are characterised by a low weight, low CO2-footprint and moderate raw material costs and are mainly used by the automotive industry - mostly in the interior sector.
In recent years, we have succeeded in improve the technical performance of the materials, that they are now also suitable for car body components, but also for other areas of application such as electronics and shipbuilding.
Creating knowledge about biocomposites
In order to make the biocomposites to achieve a market breakthrough on a broad front, The players involved often lack sufficient knowledge and expertise. This starts with the training of future skilled workers and engineers and extends to the decision-making levels of manufacturing companies. With the Webinar series „Biocomposites - challenges and opportunities“ would like to Agency for Renewable Resources e. V. a Contribution to knowledge transfer to the various target groups, The company's contribution comes from a wide range of organisations, such as universities and colleges, materials manufacturers and the processing industry.
Planned event dates:
- 8 December 2021 - Biocomposites - Introduction,
- 12 January 2022 - Biocomposites - Markets,
- 9 February 2022 - Biocomposites - Spin-off.
