Velux packaged without plastic

The roof window manufacturer Velux is introducing plastic-free packaging for nine out of ten of its pitched roof windows. FSC-certified cardboard is used instead of plastic. In doing so, the company aims to save up to 900 tonnes of plastic per year and make it easier for tradesmen to dispose of packaging waste.

The changeover is part of the roof window manufacturer's sustainability strategy launched in 2020, with which it aims to do pioneering work for the climate and nature, develop sustainable products and ensure a responsible business model. By 2030, the packaging for all products is to be made from a single material, without plastic and 100 per cent recyclable.

In this first step, the new packaging will be used for 90 per cent of the pitched roof windows produced with immediate effect. Due to storage effects, however, it may take a few more weeks before the old packaging has completely disappeared from the market. Velux will also gradually change the packaging for flashings, sun and heat protection products such as roller shutters, accessories and all other roof window types. This new packaging is currently under development.
