SAUSAGE WRAP THAT CAN BE RECYCLED

Sliced sausage is usually still sold in packaging made from multi-layer composite film. Sustainable packaging for sliced sausage is on its way, but recyclable mono-materials still pose special challenges, for example to the heating systems necessary for the thermoforming process. GEA and Watttron have developed a technical solution to this problem together, that allows these materials to be used more simply and without any impairments to their functionality.

PUBLIC OBLIGATIONS FOR RECYCLING: GERMANY – A GOOD ROLE MODEL?

Recycling raw materials is one of the three grand principles governing the way in which large parts of the packaging industry are now changing their production – so that our planet will stay habitable for humans for a long time. Whether metal, glass, plastics, or paper: The aim is to keep the materials used in packaging in their raw material cycle for as long as possible, in line with the concept of a circular economy, and to thus reduce the usage of new materials.

Even 2,000 years ago, hemp fibres were used to make paper, before they were replaced by cheaper wood fibres. Today, hemp is back: as paper for packaging and labels, but also as sustainable pulp moulded pallets or naturally grown mycelium packaging.

While the media presentation of this event sparked many a cutting remark, not everybody was in the mood for humour: Like falling dominoes, the blockage caused damage to the world economy worth several billion Euro.

VACUUM-SEALED CLOSURES FOR BULK GOODS

Many different industries continually need to package or dispense liquid or powdered goods. Powders and granules especially run the risk of accumulating dirt and dust, thus impacting on cleanliness during filling, closure and transport. To prevent this from happening, packers are turning to vacuum solutions for closure. This way, the environment can be kept dust-free and products are kept safe, both when using small packages and large bulk packs.
